Scan My 2D Barcode!

I've been talking endlessly about two-dimensional barcodes now for the past year. I'm very, very happy to announce that last week, the first code reader for the iPhone was released - and it works beautifully!

Go to the iTunes App store (click here for a direct link to the software) and check it out!

What the heck are two-dimensional barcodes? You can learn more here. You can also see some ideas for how you might use the barcodes for journalism on that page.

Earlier last week, I had a discussion with Knight News Challenge winner Dan Pacheco about how he might use them for the print-on-demand news product he's developing for the Bakersfield Californian. But these codes could certainly be used at Californian as well. (For those of you not familiar with that newspaper, it's absolutely one of the most innovative newspaper shops in the country. They were using SMS short codes for advertising way before anyone else tried to synch print and mobile content.)

Anyhow - once you download Barcode, "scan" what I have below. Then, start to imagine all the possibilities!
